Tis the Season To Be Spending

OrnamentsThe Holiday season is in full swing. My halls have been fully decked with boughs of holly and the tannenbaum is colorfully lit. So, to kickstart the season I did a little Christmas shopping…for myself. Sunday afternoon I skipped my knitting session at the local bookstore to attend a PartyLite candle party at a friend’s house. I purposely left all my cash at home to prevent me from making any impulsive purchases. During the demonstration, however, I found myself hypnotized by the products. Our PartyLite representative informed us of the unique ingredients and scents in every candle. Soon I found myself nodding vehemently in agreement to ridiculous phrases like, “With regular candles you can experience a lot of drippage.” Oh yes, drippage can be such a problem. By the end of the session I was dog-earing several pages of products that I was determined to buy. I felt enormously relieved that I had wisely left my cash and checkbook at home until our lovely representative said the magic words: “I take VISA”. In my defense, candles are essential in Florida as hurricane supplies and during disasters they’ll leave the house (or what’s left of it) smelling great.

And because I love to juxtapositions two completely opposite ideas, let’s talk about giving:

I recently particpated in an event in which my school’s organization hosted a dinner for families and children staying at the Ronald McDonald House. I was so humbled by the experience that I’ve added a section in the links for trusted charities and other organizations. Please consider donating any amount this holiday season. Email me a screen shot of your charity receipt and recieve a month of free advertising on my sidebar. You can donate any amount (or the mininum if the charity requires it) and I will advertise your text link on my sidebar free for 30 days. To accomodate this, you’ll notice that the theme changer and the plugboard have been eliminated for the time being. In your face, Baby Jesus!

There is nothing wrong with doing a little shopping for yourself! Just don’t be like me, and do all the shopping for yourself. ;) Candles are nice and the house must be smelling good, storm or no storm.

I’m with the previous two ladies in that I see absolutely nothing wrong with shopping for yourself. I see something wrong with shopping for scented candles, but that’s a whole different story. I hate scented candles.

    Anyway, I had a point.

Oh yes, I was going to tell you not to feel bad that you fell for the representative’s alluring stories about drippage. Personally, I’m a sucker for a good sales pitch. Know the Magic Bullet? That blender type thing that ensures you never have to wash a single knife, plate or pan again? I so fell for that.

For the record, you are hilarious. I didn’t want to comment on the dog blog, because I didn’t want to be mean to the guy. Thank you for doing it in my stead.

    I owe you.

Every Christmas as I go out to shop for other people, I also end up buying stuff for myself. I come home with all this stuff for me, and think, “Wasn’t I supposed to be spending money on other people?”
