Just a Spoonful of Sugar Helps the Ham Go Down

At least once a week, my sister, a close friend and I get together to prepare new and exciting Chicken and Prosciutto Pasta Dinnerthree course meals in order to preserve our status as “Best Significant Others In the World“. Boyfriends, husbands and other distracting males are not allowed to attend these cooking get-togethers and are removed (with our awesome powers of nagging) if they happen to walk in at the wrong time. Last night’s main dish was Chicken and Prosciutto Pasta with sides of cheese bread and salad. Our first dilemma was to figure out exactly what prosciutto was and if we should be worried. Of course, the package includes a description on how prosciutto (ham) is cured and dried with salt but we can’t be bothered with reading.

The recipe calls for strips of chicken breast cooked in a saucepan with prosciutto and other spices. It’s then layered with cheese and sauces in a casserole dish and baked for 25 minutes. For pasta, I found the chicken to be “heavy” and unnecessary. I’d make the meal again but probably omit the chicken or prosciutto altogether (which is ideal since my significant other does not eat ham).

Telling my boyfriend about the meal over the phone was like telling a child that Santa Claus was dead:

“We’re preparing some cheese bread right now which should be great with the pasta dish. I’m going to cook the chicken with some garlic and basil.”

“Oh, that sounds delicious.”

“Yeah, I know. Then I’m going to add the prosciutto and the peppers-”

In agony, “Prosciutto?”

“Yes. For our sides we’ll be having ham with a little ham gravy drizzled on top. And for dessert we’ll be having some ham sherbert with whipped ham. Do you want me to save some for you?”

MY WEBSITE ROCKS! And your’s doesnt’! It has teh wrong spacing betwen the imagex and the text. MINE ROCKS!

You know, close as my friends and I have been, we haven’t actually sat down to prepare a meal together before. :( Perhaps we have to do something soon, even if it means preparing instant noodles and frying simple eggs, because none of my friends can cook! :P Heh.

From the looks of it, your friends and your ‘cooking project’ seemed to be very successful!

Ah, sounds like a fun thing to do with friends. I love to cook and it’s always fun to try and sample new recipes. The dish you prepared together looks delicious. I’d gobble it down in a second. I’ve never heard of that pasta before (won’t even attempt to spell it) but it sounds very nice. Mmm.. I may have ot pinch your recipe ;)

looks awesome, I watch “Everyday Italian” on The Food Network every now and then, the food that lady makes looks tasty as hell, and i know i’m not gay for watching it cuz the host/cook is hott and i would like to have sexual intercourse with her, u know, to burn off the calories from the super delicious meals.

“…in case you heathens ever forget that it’s Christmas.” all i gotta say is “Happy Birthday Mithra”

If I knew how to cook at all, I’d steal your idea and do cooking dates with friends. But as it stands, I doubt anyone who knows me and my kitchen skills would agree to such an evening. I blame the fact that we don’t have the Food Network over here.

    Hahhahahahahahaha.
    Hhaha.
Good stuff. The meal looks/sounds good. I don’t like Ham though… but I dunno… I could make an exception for Whipped Ham.

OMG, the gingerbread house looks awesome! Love the pics at Flickr. :D But anyway, sounds like an interesting (and looks like a delicious) dish, and very kind of you to ask him that question right at the end there. XD

That looks yumm. I can’t cook lol. XP

That sounds very yummy! I like that idea, of the cooking day, but all of my friends don’t cook. lol

wow. that looks incredibly delectable, and I don’t like meat and pasta that much either, i mean hello! its pasta. I don’t even like meat sauce on Spagetti, oh well. anyways, I respect you so much for keeping Chirst in Christmas. Damn the Liberals!!!!
