It’s Too Late, I’m Already a Chowderhead

Kurt Vonnegut wrote a straight forward piece on how to write with style. Reading it made me feel like an empty-headed writer - but I think that some blogs don’t necessarily have to have a niche (a term I’m so tired of hearing) but instead the posts should follow his first rule, to have a subject worth caring about. It’s phenomenal for anyone to have “perfectly enchanting things to say”. It’s a real gift to be able to write something that moves strangers from different corners of the earth. I don’t think I’ll ever develop that kind of ability but it’s not really my goal either. I can’t appeal to everyone, I can’t grasp universal themes that people can really connect to. Every day it feels like an exquisite struggle to write - I want to but sometimes I simply can’t. Maybe it’s my own insecurity that prevents me, but writing has really turned into an exploration of what I’m capable of. I’m trying to get to know myself and, really, isn’t that what all bloggers and writers are striving to do in the end? That’s one theme we can all share.

How does reading Kurt Vonnegut’s piece affect your views of your own blogging/writing?
