It’s two days before Thanksgiving Day and I am mildly freaking out. My family and my boyfriend’s family will meet for the first time and I am responsible for the evening’s meal - the main event, the turkey.
No pressure, or anything.
I’ll also be making:
Potato Salad
Tembleque
Pumpkin Cream Cheese Pie
And a birthday surprise for my puppy, Elwood who turns 1 year old on Thanksgiving day.
I love being a hostess, it’s just my thing - but I am pretty anal retentive about it. I have a specific vision for this Thanksgiving and I hope it turns out well (and by that I mean I will shit a brick over minor details).
First, we’ll be moving the dining table out into the sunroom were we’ve hung icicle Christmas lights from the ceiling. I’m all about mood lighting, so I’ve also purchased white glass candle votives from the dollar store. Plus, if the food looks repulsive, no one will really notice since they’ll be squinty eyeing their plate.
I have hours worth of house cleaning to do and lots of wringing of the hands. Tufts of Elwood’s hair coat our tile like snow which happens within hours of vacuuming and mopping which is really unbelievable considering he is a short-haired border collie or did he miss the memo?
On Wednesday, I’ll make some last minute stops to the grocery store and start preparing some of the dishes since I am the worst at multitasking. If I have to make the gravy and the potato salad and the pumpkin pie and be a lady in front of family all on the same day I just might keel over and die.

Girl, don’t freak out! You can do this. You are well prepared. Just don’t forget to breath. And to enjoy the evening when it comes around. The parents will love each other as much as you and your boyfriend do. It will all work out. Have a lovely Thanksgiving!
