Running Wrapup
I’ll admit it. This week, I nearly fell off the wagon. After turning 25, I was feeling pretty discouraged. I also somehow deleted my Week 4 Couch to 5k training podcast and had to improvise. My stats this week are erratic and disappointing – my pace increased and my length decreased. I didn’t drink enough water and got winded easily; I just didn’t have my mojo.
Somehow, I made it for the Saturday 9am Orlando Women’s Runners meetup group. This was the first time I walk/ran 4 and 1/2 miles and it was intense. I was fighting against the breeze and every small inclination in the pavement felt like Mt. Everest. After the run, I felt absolutely fabulous but today I can feel soreness and tightness in every muscle movement. It’s painful but it’s a good kind of pain. I feel accomplished and inspired again. Next week I’ll begin Week 5 in my Couch to 5k podcast training. I’ll be running for longer periods of time with shorter walking breaks – I don’t think I’m making much of an improvement but I think I’m expecting too much out of myself to begin with.
I’m also attempting to train my nearly one year old border collie, Elwood, to run at my side but he’s, well, kind of an asshole. He lunges forward randomly and often stops or jerks around to fidget with his head harness (the only thing preventing him from choking himself on walks). I’ve tried all sorts of training techniques to make Elwood better to walk with, but he’s simply unpredictable and as a border collie, I think it’s in his nature to wander. It’ll take some time and eventually I’ll have a great running partner or a real pain in the ass. Either way, he’s adorable.

I totally admire your “go get ‘em” attitude when it comes to running. I *tried* making running part of my life…but it never happened. I also
chicken outwithdraw from the recent Borneo 5K Run… LOL! but glad to met a runner like you here!Jolyne (November 19, 2008, 7:44 am).
Oh NO! I mess up your comment form! Sorry! I meant to make a strikethrough on the “chickenout” part only…

Thanks Jolyne, no worries, I’ll fix it!
Yeah I try hard, occasionally I slack off….like say today: I don’t want to run because I’m having a REALLY great hair day, so I don’t want to shower after my run and ruin it! Hah!
But I always try to make up for it. Like I’ll probably do an hour of yoga than run Thurs and Fri.
