Oreo Snowball Truffles

Once I saw Kim’s post on Oreo Truffles, I knew I had to make them as edible gifts this holiday season.  Nearly everyone loves Oreo cookies so I couldn’t go wrong.

The recipe calls for a food processor which would understandably make the recipe very easy to make, but without a food processor, I decided to use a giant ziplock bag and my sister. This made the recipe actually very hard and very loud:

That’s me on the right, in the red, oversized, unflattering t-shirt and rubber ducky pajama pants. Don’t judge me.

Once we were done with beating the Oreos senseless, we plopped in a package of softened cream cheese and mixed thoroughly, giving the mix the distinct appearance of coffee grounds:

I had purchased White Bark at a large local supermarket and faced the difficult task of coating the truffle balls. Because, I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to baking, I had to have the smooth rounded surface you’d find at an upscale bakery. I tried coating the balls, which were pretty malleable and prone to crumbling, by first dipping with a fork and the coating with a spoon. I spent most of the evening carefully tapping away excess melted bark and gingerly placing the balls on the cookie sheet with a toothpick. Then my boyfriend came up with a brilliant suggestion: put the Oreo and cream cheese mix in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes so that the balls would hold their shape better and keep from crumbling into the melted bark.

I’m going to make genius babies with him one day.

A few crystal sprinkles and voila, Oreo Snowball Truffles. They are so sweet and delicious!

Oreo Truffle - Yummy!

The bark I used hardens and keeps without the need to be refrigerated, but since I’m not giving these treats out until Monday, I thought it best to store them in tupperware in the refrigerator until I can get small boxes to give them away.

alisa, I spent a ridiculous amount of time on each one. I wonder how they actually coat truffles in a bakery!

Nicole, thanks! They taste pretty good too, very rich!

Croaker, you should give it a shot. Maybe I’ll send you some truffles if you do!
