Cream Soda Cupcakes

I know what you’re thinking, “I like cream soda! It’s sweet and bubbly and totally amazing. So cream soda cupcakes would make a delicious treat!”

But then, you’d be wrong. I saw a picture of Fried Coca Cola on the blog This is Why You’re Fat and really wanted to try making it even though I never buy or consume coke.  But I do buy root beer and cream soda, you know, for the boyfriend. So I figured, I’d just put the cream soda in the batter and magic would happen!

Only it didn’t. I followed a recipe that called for 8 oz of root beer and root beer essence (because who doesn’t have that lying around). But I figured it would be the same difference using just a can of cream soda instead. The batch baked for about 20 minutes but had the consitency of half-cooked batter. It was spongy, lifeless and almost tasteless. It wasn’t worth icing or even a picture.

But the fried coca cola? I have a lot of faith in that.
