A Strong Indication that I Would Fail at Graduate School

This is all that’s left of my 120CFN Holga camera.

In a moment of sheer stupidity, I left the Holga perched on the trunk of my car and drove home oblivious to it falling off, into the road and pulverized by traffic. By the time I realized what an astronomically stupid mistake I had made, the camera ceased to be. After 20 minutes of squinting into the night, the road illuminated only by the headlights of cars passing by, my boyfriend found the Holga lens and handed it to me. This is when I burst into tears.

I’m not an artistic, experienced or even talented photographer by any means, but I thoroughly enjoy taking photographs. I was especially distraught over losing a roll of 120 film which contained shots of my boyfriend and I taking his saluki to a local dog park. The weather was tolerably warm and the park was situated by a lake which provided fantastic photo opportunities of dogs frolicking in the water, the sun setting behind the trees.

Later this week I’ll finally pick up the Holga prints and find out whether a replacement is in order.

Lost with the Holga–a roll of ridiculously overpriced gaffer’s tape. I’m sure someone’s cardboard box will be kept in perfect shape. You’re welcome, hobo!

Now That I Have a Degree All I Do is Bake

I felt inspired to bake some cupcakes for no particular reason. I followed a Cherry-Vanilla Cupcake recipe from the Cupcake Bakeshop.

Cherry Filled Cupcake

Instead of using the crisp white icing and a cherry (displayed prettily in Chockylit’s photo), I decided I wanted to add some color. I ended up with icing that looks as though the Easter bunny took a dump on all of my cupcakes.

I know what you’re thinking. I’m in the middle of my Graduate school application as we speak.

I Feel Like Something’s Missing In My Life

It’s been two and a half weeks since I graduated with an English degree from Rollins College. While I felt an overwhelming sense of relief and elation, I also felt like a huge portion of my daily routine suddenly went missing. But now I realize what it is: stress. I’m lacking a huge amount of procrastination-induced, essay writing, brain frying, tears-of-blood boredom stress.

Now that I’m able to reclaim my evening hours, I’m slowly blowing the dust off all the things that I used to work on: the half finished knitted sock, the last 20 pages of Amy Tan’s new novel, the stack of penpal letters and the infuriating last scenes of Grandia III (seriously, how many pseudo-bosses does that game have?).

I have big plans to attend graduate school in the fall but I feel nauseous just thinking about it so I think I’ll do myself a huge favor by waiting until the spring semester. That’ll give me approximately 8 months to enjoy life as God had intended: in bed.

Pink Notecard Set I received an elegant note card set as a graduation gift from a friend who remembered my penchant for stationary. It has inspired me to send out notes to friends and family. Would you like a note from me? Fill out the form at the bottom of the page and leave me your snail mail address for a special message in your mailbox.

The price of stamps was raised another 2 cents recently. Again, I’m stuck with a book of 39 cent comic book stamps. How dare the US Postal Service cheapen the legacies of Hawkman and Plastic Man?
